# tmux - acts as window manager for terminals - provides sessions commands are triggered by `prefix key` (defaults to `ctrl-b`) followed by `command key`. see list of all commands w/ `ctrl-b ?`. ## panes and windows split terminal w/ panes, which behave like tiling wm. create new full screen terminals w/ windows. - `%`, `"` split vertically, horizontally - `←`, `→`, `↑`, `↓` move to pane left, right, up, down - `ctrl-←`, `ctrl-→`, `ctrl-↑`, `ctrl-↓` resize pane in given direction - `z` toggle make pane full screen (w/o transforming it to window) - `{`, `}` swap last panes - `c` create new window - `n`, `p`, `[number]` move to next, previous, number-th window - `,` name current window # scrolling - `[` enter copy mode, move w/ page up, down - `⏎` leave copy mode ## sessions ```sh # create session, optionally w/ with name tmux tmux new -s name tmux rename-session -t oldname newname # list all sessions tmux ls # attach to last or named session tmux attach tmux attach -t 2 # switch to named session tmux switch -t 2 ``` - `d` detach current session - `D` detach session of choice ## configuration: `~/.tmux.conf` enforce config reload w/ `tmux source-file ~/.tmux.conf` ## todo - [ ] howto scroll with mouse wheel - [ ] howto use tmux as default shell - [ ] checkout status bar features - [ ] why and how `D`? how/why can i have multiple sessions at once?
